ACBL UNIT 356 BOARD MEETING, FEBRUARY 10, 2008

Time:  10:30 am

Location:  LasCandelas Bridge Club

 

         Board Members Present:  Julie Abrahams, Betty Compton, Connie Freeman, Jan Miller, Paul Moore, Bob Simrak, Brenda Sonderegger, Margaret Curvin.

         Absent:  Ken Badertscher, Prudy Cain.

 

I.  The meeting was called to order by Vice President, Connie Freeman.

 

II. Reports of Officiers: 

  1. Minutes of  previous meeting were corrected to delete Rosemary Brophys name from being absent since she is not a member of the board.  Approved as corrected.

  2. Treasurer’s Report:  Christie’s report was approved as presented.  The closing checking account balance of $17,888.09 does not reflect the cost of the hotel from the January tournament.  

  3. Vice President:  no report

  4. District 17 Representative:  no report

III.   Committee Reports:

  1. Tournament Chair:  Paul:  The January tournament was down 5.5 tables, and earned a profit of $857.59.  The set up and tear down went well. There were a good number of positive comments about the  playing space and rooms.  The restaurant was crowded, and Paul will discuss with the them about serving better. Paul said he has sanctions for 2009 tournaments, which include January 8-11, April 16-19, I/N Oct. 30-Nov 1.  Paul presented his Tournament Profit/Loss by year report from1999 through 2007. There was a question about the amount of $3,304.12 for supplies in 2006.  Christie will check on this.  For the Tournament on Feb 21-24th the board members should  be there on Thursday at noon for Bridge Plus. On Friday Christie is hosting a party for Jerry Fleming for board members only, it will begin at 7:00 pm. Connie showed us the hand-out which is an insulated bag, there are  250 of these.

  2. Club Manager:  Bob Simak:  Bob will order 2007 Life Master Pins

  3. Hospitality, no report.

  4. Membership, no report.

  5. Education, no report.

  6. Publicity:  no report.

  7. Novice Rep:  Brenda:  Brenda has bags, name tags, and pens as give outs.  She reported that she has scheduled two workers for each shift for the tournament.

IV.  Unfinished Business:

  1. Julie reported that at the January Unit game Barbara Rosenthal made an announcement about Adobe games. It is not the policy to advertise information about other bridge clubs at the Unit games.  Bob will inform her of this.

  2. Kay Afdahl will be holding a class for Directors.  She will set the dates.

  3. Copies of the By-Laws of Tucson Unit 356 were made available as well as copies of  Job Descriptions for the members of the Board.

V.   No new business

 

The meeting was adjourned at 11:40.  The next meeting is March 16th at Las Candelas Bridge Club.
